破裂音のズレを“輪郭の裕度”とし、電子レンジを用いて数百本のウインナーの声を聴く映像インスタレーション作品です。モニターのアルファベットは、破裂音を音声認識し、翻訳などに用いられる自動文字生成を行なっています。ウインナーの微かな個体差からアクセントや言語リズムを抽出し、あるはずのない意識を浮かび上がらせる試みです。
One day, as I casually heated sausages in a microwave, I heard their screams. The microwaves heated the sausages’ uniformly standardized skins to their limit, causing these encasings to burst, and their cries echoed through my quiet apartment.
This work forcibly translates these artificially produced screams, born from the process of mincing and encasing meat, into sound and text, presenting them as an audiovisual installation where sight and sound intersect. One by one, hundreds of sausages are tossed into the microwave under identical conditions, exposing the subtle differences which emerge when their encasings rupture. The sounds of the bursting sausages are recorded and converted into fragmentary linguistic units, which are collected through voice analysis. The alphabet that appears on the monitor as an unintelligible code creates the illusion that the sausages—mass-produced, with seemingly no individual differences—have developed consciousness, delivering unexpected messages.
